Renexia awarded for Beleolico wind farm in Taranto

Renexia receives the Falanto Award for Beleolic the first wind farm in the Mediterranean Sea, in the third edition of Taranto Port Days.
AN AWARD FOR WIND POWER AT SEA
Renexia, the Toto Group company active in renewables, received the Falanto Prize in Taranto at the “Taranto Port Days 2022” (Oct. 9, 2022). It is an award that the Ionian Sea Port System Authority, the promoter of the initiative, has given to Renexia, for having built Beleolico the first marine wind farm in Italy and the entire Mediterranean.
THE FALANTO AWARD DEDICATED TO SUSTAINABILITY
The Falanto prize is an award designed to highlight the contribution of public and private entities that have launched initiatives aimed at the sustainable development of the territory thanks to the sea, a resource for the entire city of Taranto.
“We are very honored to receive this award, which testifies to the efforts we have made to realize Beleolico. A work that, thanks to a constructive relationship with the relevant ministries, has seen us work in synergy with the Port Authority and city institutions. Taranto thus becomes a virtuous example, as well as a reference point for a fast-growing sector such as offshore wind” – comments Riccardo Toto, General Manager of Renexia.
Beleolico represents the high technological level reached for the production of renewable energy, is the result of an investment of about 80 million euros and will ensure an annual production of about 60 thousand MWh, the needs of more than 60 thousand people.
Thanks to the agreement signed between the Port Authority and Renexia last April, Beleolico will provide part of the energy generated by the plant to enable the total electrification of the port of Taranto.
BELEOLICO, THE WIND OF RENEWABLES IN TARANTO
Beleolico represents an infrastructure with characteristics of innovation and sustainability:
- 10 turbines
- for a total capacity of 30 MW once in operation
- capable of ensuring a production of more than 58 thousand MWh
- to cover the annual needs of 60 thousand people
- over its lifetime, Beleolico will save about 730 thousand tons of CO2.
Beleolico is an environmentally sustainable plant, but also a social one: it fits into a context marked by the presence of heavy industry and has been designed to contribute to the revitalization of Taranto, because it will be able to generate a new industrial supply chain thanks to the maintenance activities of its facilities, both on land and at sea, with the employment of local operators.
