Renexia, Ming Yang, and Kong Join Forces for Safety: Drill at the Taranto Wind Farm Turbine

A Daily Commitment to Safety “Beyond the Standard”

At the Taranto offshore wind farm, safety is a practice built day by day through rigorous procedures, ongoing training, and operational field tests. In this context, Renexia conducted a complex drill to verify and optimize turbine evacuation and rescue procedures. The initiative, which involved the active participation of Renexia’s QAS (Quality, Environment, and Safety) team, is fully aligned with the company’s philosophy of pursuing “safety beyond the standard” by implementing solutions and operational responses that exceed standard regulations. The training represents a pioneering effort in the sector, establishing itself as a model of excellence with very few equals in Europe.

Real-world simulations to improve evacuation procedures

The activity took place over two days and involved QAS Renexia technicians and specialists, Ming Yang technicians, along with trainers from Kong S.p.A., a GWO-certified training company specializing in safe work on wind turbines. The first phase involved a controlled descent from the top of the nacelle using a CRD (Constant Rate Descender) device, an essential procedure for ensuring a safe evacuation in the event of an emergency at height. The second day introduced an additional operational scenario inside the turbine, simulating the rescue of an injured person, placing them on a stretcher, and transferring them to the roof of the nacelle for a controlled descent.

Integrated Expertise for Plant Management

The exercise brought together the expertise of professionals from Kong S.p.A., technicians from Ming Yang and Elettro Wind involved in O&M activities, and the Renexia team responsible for plant management and safety. Kong led the field operations, while Ming Yang, Elettro Wind, and Renexia ensured the turbine’s complete safety and established the operating conditions necessary for conducting the tests.

Toward Ever-Higher Safety Standards

The implementation of evacuation and rescue procedures has confirmed that the prevention and protection measures adopted at the wind farm ensure an effective, structured, and timely response. Cutting-edge training for field personnel, along with the monitoring and analysis of findings, are integral to the process of continuously improving health and safety standards, helping to make the offshore operations of the technicians involved increasingly robust and to strengthen the long-term management of the facility.
