Through its subsidiary Us Wind Inc. Renexia has won the tender initiated by the State of Maryland, USA, for the supply of renewable energy from offshore wind farms. It is a $3.3 billion contract over 20 years that the Maryland Public Service Commission awarded to Us Wind.

ONE OF THE LARGEST OFFSHORE WIND FARMS ON THE ATLANTIC COAST

The concession covers 80.000 acres, or over 32.000 hectares, off Ocean City, MD. The project will utilise US Wind’s extensive international experience to create a sustainable local footprint in Maryland’s economy. A total of 187 turbines are planned to be installed on over 80,000 acres. A substation will collect energy from the turbines and transport it to shore using underwater cables.

A LARGE HUB FOR BUILDING AND ASSEMBLING WIND TOWERS

Wind energy projects typically require hundreds of different components. Skilled labour is needed to build, assemble and maintain wind turbines and the infrastructure that supports them. US Wind is developing plans for one of the largest offshore wind energy hubs on the US East Coast. The facility will be able to efficiently store and deliver wind tower components, such as nacelles, towers and blades, as well as foundations.

A SYSTEM CAPABLE OF SUPPLYING GREEN ENERGY TO 40% OF THE STATE

The project has completed the permit process for a total capacity of 1.920 MW, enough to power over 500.000 homes, covering Maryland’s green energy needs alone. During its lifetime, the project will support the development of hundreds of highly skilled jobs in engineering, construction and operation.
