Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn

The Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn has scientifically validated the results of surveys carried out by marine biologists in the Med Wind development area, enabling the identification and classification of the main biological communities present.

Founded in 1872, the Zoological Station Anton Dohrn in Naples identifies its mission as research into the fundamental processes of biology, with specific reference to marine organisms and their biodiversity, in close connection with the study of their evolution and the dynamics of marine ecosystems, through an integrated and interdisciplinary approach. The study of the resulting biotechnological applications is part of the Institution’s mission.

The Zoological Station also offers access to marine organisms for the international scientific community and advanced training courses within the scope of its mission.

Renexia has applied the founding principles of Legambiente to each of its projects, to the point of introducing them permanently into its approach based on environmental and social sustainability. Alongside Legambiente, Renexia has taken part in Goletta Verde campaigns.

Legambiente

Legambiente is the most widespread environmental association in Italy. Since 1980, it has been fighting against pollution, illegality and injustice for beauty, protection, and a better quality of life.
Articulated in over a thousand local groups, it comprises 18 regional offices and over 110 thousand members and supporters.

Its mission is based on scientific environmentalism combined with constant work to inform, raise awareness and involve citizens, which over the years has made it possible to collect thousands of data on the ecosystem from below, at the basis of every complaint and proposal.

The environmental association carries out numerous awareness-raising and information campaigns, is active against environmental illegality, and promotes solidarity and peace as fundamental values of our society. It is also involved in projects and initiatives to promote nature protection, the preservation of biodiversity and the sustainable development of the territory.

Marina Militare

Marina Militare has carried out the first of the four oceanographic campaigns planned for the Med Wind project, making it possible to census and locate numerous animal and plant species that inhabit the marine ecosystem that will host the park.

Marina Militare is the operational maritime component of the military defence of the Italian Republic and is one of the four Italian armed forces, together with the Italian Army, Air Force and Carabinieri. It is entrusted with the control and conduct of naval operations in territorial and international waters.

Among the many activities in which it operates, Marina Militare focuses on respect for the environment and the dissemination of maritime education aimed at respecting and appreciating the sea as an important resource for a peninsular country like Italy.

It also supports scientific research and makes a significant contribution in monitoring marine environmental parameters useful for ascertaining the state of health of national and international seas.

The partnership between Renexia and JDC is based on a study of the impact of offshore wind technology on marine wildlife that is an emblematic case study for the Mediterranean Sea. JDC supports edutainment activities within the Beleolico project.

Jonian Dolphin Conservation

The Jonian Dolphin Conservation is located in Taranto and has been studying and monitoring cetaceans in the northern Ionian Sea for over thirteen years. To finance its research, the JDC hosts citizens and tourists aboard two catamarans – “Taras” and “Extraordinaria” – who are involved in the activities, becoming themselves “researchers for a day”, through so-called “citizen science”.

The headquarters of the JDC is “KETOS – Centro Euromediterraneo del mare e dei cetacei” located in Palazzo Amati, an ancient building in the old city of Taranto transformed into a multifunctional centre.

SEAS Geosciences is carrying out core drilling and sampling in order to develop a detailed and comprehensive map of the seabed to enable the development of the best mooring and anchoring solutions for Med Wind’s wind towers.

SEAS GEOSCIENCES

SEAS was formed to support the expansion of clean energy – and beyond – by integrating decades of specialised experience in geotechnical solutions, marine construction and data science. Part of the Woocheen family of companies of the Alaska Native Corporation Sealaska, SEAS focuses on using its expertise and technology to understand the nature and mechanics of the earth. Its innovations and expertise are geared towards addressing unique challenges such as environmental restrictions, marine life conservation, bathymetry and difficult terrain and deep water.
