Beleolico pleases Europe: the visit of European Commission vice president Frans Timmermans
European Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans, during his day in Taranto, also visited Beleolico, the first marine wind farm in the Mediterranean. He was welcomed on the quay of the multi-sectoral pier by Riccardo Toto, General Manager of Renexia – the company that built the plant – who took the opportunity to tell Timmermans about all the efforts made to complete a work that is concretely giving the Jonian capital a primary role in the energy transition process.
Also present were Taranto Mayor Rinaldo Melucci, Deputy Mayor Fabrizio Manzulli, and researchers from Jonian Dolphin Conservation.. JDC itself is a partner of Renexia, and together a protocol was established for monitoring cetaceans both during the installation of the turbines and in the current phase when the park is at full capacity.
THE WORDS OF RICCARDO TOTO
“Beleolico is the first example that in Taranto a new industrial model is possible, more environmentally and socially sustainable, and that today it is already bearing fruit by providing clean energy for the Port of Taranto,” – commented Renexia General Manager Riccardo Toto. “This is confirmed by the special attention that Vice President Frans Timmermans wanted to give to the project, with a visit to the plant in the afternoon, showing Europe that the wind blowing over Taranto, with other new projects and ample employment prospects, is the same wind that moves the blades of our wind farm, an opportunity for growth and change for the country and the territory.””.
